He was surprised to find himself thinking of his mentor as he worked, a fierce, fiery woman who had become like a second mother to him. Where was she now, he wondered. No matter now. Perhaps he could message her when they were finished here, which they almost were. "Should be just another fifteen minutes or so," Henriks told the admiral, "and you'll be right as rain."
[Sickbay] The Admiral groaned quietly at the prognosis. "Is that your professional opinion, Doctor?" she asked, only faintly joking. It was testament to her advancing years and the rigours she had put her body through over her years as a security and tactical officer that she was feeling this wound. Twenty years ago, she would have jumped off the biobed once it had been healed and run off the effects, but the thought of doing such a thing now just made her think she needed to make time to run more drills and exercises on the holodeck to keep herself fit.

| Ambassador Ajuinn The tension in the hall, already at quite a height given the number of different species in the room, not all of whom were friendly with each other, had become decidedly oppressive since the commanding officer of the station had apparently been stabbed. Ambassador Ajuinn, who had been invited to represent his non-affiliated planet at the talks, pulled at his collar, feeling quite hot and uncomfortable. There was talk of a hallucinogen in the air, whispered comments and rumours quickly circulating. Most of the ambassadors and officers had split into more friendly groups, allies with allies against those they didn't trust. Summoning up every scrap of courage he had, Ajuinn stepped away from his entourage of aides and toward the intimidating figure of the station's executive officer, clearing his throat. "If I could have a word with you, Admiral?" | |

Stark felt the calming effects of the counter-agent begin to filter through out the meeting hall. He wasn't sure what all the Science department had cooked up, but it seemed to take the edge off. Of everyone else, that was. He was still ready to bite the heads off stembolts. "You may," he answered the ambassador, "but make it quick."

"You may," he answered the ambassador, "but make it quick." Ambassador Ajuinn It would seem that the Admiral was in quite an agitated state, although that was understandable given what was happening on his station. Wringing his hands, Ajuinn glanced around before deciding that it was best to get directly to the point before Admiral Stark pointed that phaser rifle at his head and fired. "I believe that the hallucinogen may be due to myself and my aides. It's a particularity of our species, you see, a defense mechanism held over from our pre-sentience days."

[Sickbay] "Well," Henriks conceded as the medical procedure was beginning to come to a close, "as right as rain as can be given your situation, Admiral. There's only so much abuse or repairs a body will take. Keep pushing it and it will be less receptive to further repairs." The wounds suffered by Admiral Deacon were coming along fairly well, for now, he mused. But he was sorely afraid that the admiral would do something rasch the moment she was released from sickbay, undoing all the work it took to stitch her back up together again.

[Sickbay] Hearing the tools being switched off and put away, Rachel sat up on the biobed, wincing as she tried to draw in a deep breath. The wound site, despite having no visible trace of injury, was still going to be tender and sore for a good few days at least. Deciding to ignore that fact, she swung her legs over the side of the biobed, dropping onto her feet. There was an agonising moment when she wondered if her legs were going to hold her or whether she was going to fall over in a faint from blood loss, but they held and she hung on grimly to her consciousness. "Thank you, doctor, nurse. If you could hand me my VISOR, I'd better be going after Admiral Stark."

[Meeting Hall] Silently, Stark counted down from five to zero, searching for calm. He'd never been this on-edge when he'd been on the bridge of a starship, that was for certain. There was something about this damned sedentary job that had his nerves worn down to naked wire...and crap like this didn't help. "I see," he said, nodding. "I'm going to take it on good faith that you're self-reporting this, because you have to know how it makes you look...especially considering that Admiral Deacon was stabbed directly due to the confusion caused by your hallucinogens." He nodded to a few security officers. "Escort the ambassador and his party to the medical labs."

"Thank you, doctor, nurse. If you could hand me my VISOR, I'd better be going after Admiral Stark." [Sickbay] Ensign Maya reached over to where the Deacon's VISOR lay, admiring it for a moment before handing it back to the admiral. "Here it is, ma'am," she said, pressing it gently into the admiral's hands. Soon Deacon would be off, chasing after Stark or perhaps whoever had stabbed her. Maya was itching to follow, because once the admiral left, sickbay would be a ghost town again. Surely Chief Ābols wouldn't need her then? But evidently he had been thinking along the same line of thoughts, because he said, "I need you to stay here, Miss Stone." The likelihood was that one or both admirals would shortly be making a return visit, so Maya resigned to her fate and moved to return all the tools to their proper places. - Corman Stark wrote:

Judging from the uniform he wore, the unknown was an ambassador, one of the many currently aboard the station. "How may we help you, sir?" Henriks asked.

Ambassador Ajuinn [Meeting Hall] "I am aware of how it looks," Ambassador Ajuinn replied. "I can assure you that no one of my delegation was responsible to the attack on your commanding officer. We are a peaceful species." A couple of gold-shirted officers stepped up toward him and, with a nod to the Admiral, left with them without a fuss. - Henriks Abols wrote:

[Sickbay] Arriving in sickbay, Ajuinn crossed a furious looking Deacon going in the other direction, toward the meeting hall. Shrugging off that somewhat disturbing sight, he turned his attention to the man he guessed was in command of the sickbay. "I've been sent by Admiral Stark. My species is responsible for the hallucinogen that has affected many of your crew and guests."

"I've been sent by Admiral Stark. My species is responsible for the hallucinogen that has affected many of your crew and guests." [Sickbay] "Well, then. Welcome to sickbay," Henriks told the ambassador. "We'll do what we can to have this resolved as soon as possible." Turning to the ensign, who ever increasingly looked like she wanted to be anywhere but here, he asked, "Miss Stone, would you pull up all data we have on file for his species?" Maya Stone nodded, with an agitated expression, and departed. He couldn't blame her. The general feeling of apprehension had increased shortly after the ambassador had arrived in sickbay. "Please, take a seat," Henriks said, gesturing to the nearest biobed while fetched his tricorder. A few taps and the little gizmo whirred, taking in all sorts of different data. "I'm reading elevated heart-rate and increased activity in the brain. And an exceptionally strong presence of pheromones." He paused for a moment to take in what else the tricorder had to tell. What it was telling him was that the man was under, or feeling, extreme stress. Oh, how he could have used Chira's help right then. She was the real genius when it came to this stuff, but she was otherwise occupied at the moment. "Could you tell me, ambassador," he asked, "is there something troubling you right now?" It was at that moment that Maya Stone returned, padd in hand.

[Sickbay] Ajuinn took a seat on the biobed the Chief Medical Officer had pointed out, patiently waiting for him to come back with a tricorder and his assistance with a PADD. Chances were that they wouldn't have a lot of data on his species since they were known for keeping to themselves. It was only after the recent war that they had started to interact with other species so as to have allies should another power attempt to take down life in the Alpha and Beta quadrants. The question about something troubling him irritated Ajuinn somewhat. "I thought you would be aware that these events are stressful by nature. I'm afraid that when we're stressed, my people secrete a hallucinogenic pheromone."

Henriks had simply forgotten, his mind having been on other things. His two little ones and their beautiful mother had paid a visit, and then a burst of activity hit sickbay. Picking up his tricorder, Henriks continued. "Different people have different reactions to these kinds of events. Ensign Maya here, for example, was itching to go," he said with a grin. But that grin quickly disappeared as he added, "But if you knew it would be stressful for you, then perhaps you could have taken preventative measures." That said, he pressed the hypo to the ambassador's neck, releasing its contents with a soft hiss.

[Sickbay] The medication released into his system by the hypo bought some relief to Ajuinn. He rubbed the slight sting as it was taken away. "We all did, but apparently not enough, or our booster shots weren't sufficient. We didn't mean for this to happen."

"Interesting," Henriks replied, setting aside the hypo to pick up the tricorder again. As expected, the ambassador's heart-rate and presence of the pheromone were beginning to decline towards what Henriks could only assume was normal levels. He had had a chance to skim over the scant information on the padd Maya had brought for him. There was very little information indeed. "Anything else we can do for you while you're in sickbay?"

[Sickbay] Now that he could feel the stress and pheromone levels starting to go down, Ajuinn slipped off the biobed, nodding to the medics. "No, thank you. I had best return to the meeting hall and reassure Admiral Stark that the effects can be reversed before he attempts to turn my aides into some form of barbecue. Thank you for your assistance, Doctor." [Mission End]
